Need to paint facias of mine and neighbours house. Tried to use ladder yesterday but the gap between homes is just over a metre which in turn made the ladder angle difficult to climb.I guess the only solution is to use a tower, scaffolding, or get someone in to do it. Which of these is the cheapest please?

Scaffolding hire can vary dependent on size and height. By the sounds of it, you would just need an aluminium tower. The steel stuff you see builders using normally has to be put up professionally and costs are relative to that.
Do you have a reasonably flat solid piece of ground below where you would be working? Towers have adjustable legs/wheels but can only be adjusted so far.
Try ringing round a few hire places. https://www.hss.co.uk are the biggest and cover the whole country. They also tend to be the most expensive. Call local hire places out of the yellow pages and they are more likely to give you a competitive price.0
