New Glasses

Just had an eye test at D&A, took my two pair of glasses with me, after the test the usual question are you looking to buy new ones? (nothing wrong with that) This I declined but enquired on the cost of new lenses as mine needed upgrading, £60 +25 for each pair (£170) because you are using your own frames, £85 per pair, gasp!!!!! no thanks...
Online opticians £50 for both..... £120 quid saved. Will they ever learn.

Eventually...when all their other customers do what you did.
Incidentally I'm with D&A and could do with some non-scratched lenses, but I'm quite happy with my frames. Where did you go for your lenses?
Thanks.0 -
i work for an independant opticians and im disgusted at the markup. those lenses that you were quoted £60 for cost 50p each. its quite unbelievable, but i wont be working there for much longer!0

Angle. Hi
I used Spex4less.com, reglazing service, there are other companies just do an internet search"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
I got very good specs at a great price from Selectspecs.com but they were VERY slow to deliver"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I sent frames for reglaze (new lenses) to SelectSpecs, and received today.
Process was about two weeks in all, which I think is fair, and you can track it on their website. I also paid by cheque to save a couple of quid, and that has to be allowed to clear remember.
I want to say that the lenses are great, quite thin (mine were 1.60 rimless) and I am very happy.
I am convinced that buying lenses via internet is the way forward full stop in terms of price. You must however adhere to the rules, such as special delivery and you should be OK.
However, they are not as thin as the lenses I acquired in Istanbul, Turkey which were mega-cheap and latest technology, super thin. I didn't pay extra, they only do super thin it would seem.
Here in the UK, Scrivens et al are still knocking out old type lenses and tier pricing to maintain their franchise incomes. If they forget the older lenses, they can't charge you extra for thin ones. Yes, even Turkey is ahead.
I reiterate that a trip to Istanbul for frames and lenses will save you money (on the glasses at least) if you fancied a city break!0
