  • Yes you will get in trouble.

    RM willhave their own driver/recovery cd for installation on the laptop. You should have simply giventhe laptop back and admitted the virus thing!

    By removing windows you may be breaking all sorts of licensing agreements for you borrowing the laptop! As long as you didnt pay a deposit u shud have no worries I suppose!

    As for the modem driver.. just disable it in device manager! That way it'll stop coming up and it's not needed anyway!

    Have fun

    Hmmm this is not gonna be a helpful post but i'm glad i'm not in your shoes!

    Where did you get the copy of windows that you installed on the laptop? I'm guessing you haven't bought a new copy so chances are you've installed illegal software on their laptop making them even more unhappy.

    I would probably have admitted the virus problem - would probably have been much easier for them to sort out but hindsight is a wonderful thing. How many other people had work stored on the laptop?

    In this situation I'd format and then act stupid saying ' I don't know what happened - it just went off and windows won't come back on again!' :A

    I'm sure you've learnt a valuable lesson

    (Edit:missed the word "won't" after windows)

    I think everyone is being a bit harsh, you showed some initiative..but your spelling of scool leaves a lot to be desired!

    Try here:

    http://www.rmplc.com/Support/

    javascript:viewTechDoc('/Support/TechnicalArticle.asp?cref=TEC640536&nav=0&referrer=SupportHome');

    "All required drivers for the new system are stored on the hard drive under the folder c:\rm\drivers. If a driver needs reinstalling, point the reinstall routine to the copy of the driver in c:\rm\drivers.

    On some systems, drivers will also be found under the C:\rmdrv folder.

    Some Disk images of the drivers disks may be stored in c:\rm\setup with the MAKEDISK application for Windows 95/98 and RMIMAGE application for Windows NT, 2000 & XP ( non NTFS ) systems, and in c:\rm\setup directory for Windows 2000. These files have a .img file extension"

    javascript:HeadOpenTechDoc('/Support/TechnicalArticle.asp?cref=TEC6605');
    Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:

    Whats the big deal? Any IT Manager with half an ounce of management skills will have a CD or DVD or a means of plugging it into the network where they can simply restore a standard image onto the laptop. This sort of thing happens and should not even cause your technical department to raise an eyebrow .. they might give you a bit of ribbing but if they are earning their keep then they should just say 'leave it in the corner and we will sort it'.
