Single mum of 2yr old left with no gas due to engineer screw up please help!!!

I don't remember my two year old brother or sister dropping dead whenever we were without gas for a day or two. Indeed, nor when we were without both gas and electricity for a week at a time. Is there something wrong with children nowadays? What makes them so vulnerable?
Lets not forget that the OP is a paying customer & if she feels that she wants /needs her heating on in July or feels the urge for numerous hot baths or whatever she should be able to do so !!!
The Fact of the matter is that she hasn't received the service that she (& any other customer) pays for and deserves !!!
Hope you got it sorted x0 -
Of course it has been a c0ck up, and of course it should be sorted.
There has just been a little teasing about the emotive language used by the OP - "freezing cold - essential living facilities - Desperate Mum"0 -
Hi Everyone...
Last monday 20th I had a new Gas meter installed as part of the national meter exchange program, the engineer put £10 emergancy credit on and said he would request a new pay card (topped up at local shop) so that I could top up my credit.
He left me with no contact details but was insistant that I had nothing to worry about. Last night my gas credit ran out and I had to hunt down the number of my gas supplier, E.on to ask them where the card was.
Their reply was that the engineer does not order the cards and that I was supposed to ring up to request one. I told them that the engineer had said he had done it, but they said there was no record of it on their system and it would be ordered this morning and with me in a few days time.
I explained that I had a two year old in a freezing cold flat with no cooking facilities, no heat and no hot water to which they replied that they would see if there was an engineer in the area and would be on a 4 hour call out (that was at 8am) having just called back they confirmed that no engineer was in the area and there was nothing they could do except ask me to call back at 3pm.
What the hell?! Please tell me what I can do, surely they can't leave me without essential living facilities?!!!
Thanks in advance (and for reading all the way through!!!)
Desperate Mum,

I did wonder why the single parent part was relevant.0

Some people on here are very critical!! Doesn't really matter if she's a single mother. The energy company made a mistake and she wanted advice. Maybe her description was a little emotive, but so what? This lady hasn't done anything wrong!! I'm surprised some people aren't put off posting again going off some of these comments! Poor women was only asking for advice!
Some people feel the cold more than others, my sister has a flat and its always chily due to no natural sunlight and she pops her heating on when she has a shower!
Good luck OP!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Wish you best.
If you live in a flat which is freezing cold in the middle of summer.. and have no cooking facilities.. i would think about changing your current flat for something else.0 -

I don't know why some people bother replying. It's actually quite chilly at the moment, and although i haven't got my heating on, it's up to the individual if they want it on and not for us to comment, given it's not the point of the thread.0 -
I'm a litle surprised that the OP didn't chase this up at the end of last week, when the emergency was running low and she had no replacement card.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

do payzone retailers not have the facility to issue replacement cards? i'm on a scottish power quantum card meter for my gas and i can get a replacement card from a shop a mile awaythings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

Not always that easy though!! My sister rents a basement flat, its all she can afford. I'm sure if she was in the position to rent something better, she would. Im very proud of her, she works hard for min wage and does the best that she can (with no help from the Gov!!):heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
