Citi Easyjet Mastercard benefits reduction

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I thought it was worth making existing and potential Citi Easyjet card holders aware of this. When I took out my card about 18 months ago, you earned 2 easyjet miles for every £1 spent overseas and 1 easyjet mile for every £1 spent in the UK. On June 1st this year they changed their terms and conditions and you now only get 0.5 easyjet miles for every £1 spent overseas and a miserable 0.3 easyjet miles (or 3 miles for very £10 spent, as they now like to put it) for every £1 spent in the UK. That means the benefit is worth less than a third of what it was and I for one won’t be using the card to purchase anything accept easyjet flights where you still get 3 miles for every £1 spent. Finally, they have reduced the maximum qualifying spend per calendar month from £3000 to just £1000, so that’s another benefit reduction.

  • Well it seems Easyjet and Citi Bank are parting company from 1st January 2010. I received a letter end of November informing me my Easyjet card will be cancelled end of the year and I will be automatically transferred onto a Platinum Mastercard. To be honest, not that bothered, I will just redeem the earned miles as cashback on the account (about £60).

I then receive a letter on the 3rd December advising a review of my account has highlighted a "small fraud risk" (I use my card overseas on business every week), and they have decided to block AND cancel my card. In the past I have just phoned up to get my card unblocked.

However, they didnt bother blocking and cancelling the card until the 6th December because quote "they knew it was a busy shopping weekend coming upto Christmas". Either there is a fraud risk or there isnt!!! Sounds to me theyre just cancelling and replacing Easyjet cards with immediate effect.

In the Citi Bank letter dated November, they say its possible to keep earing Easyjet miles until 31/12/2009. However all replacement cards issued are Citi Platinum Mastercards so I assume this now won't be possible!!!

I needed to use this particular "chip and pin" card for purchases on a new property for which I now have to wait 7 days until new card AND pin arrives.

    Bye bye Citi Bank!

My wife had the same problem. Because we spend more time in Spain than the UK, they told her she couldn't use her card in Spain. She told them this made it useless to her, so they said they were cancelling it.

When she asked about a refund of all the points, they said they would refund them to the card, but she had to spend the next 4 months arguing with them and had to threaten to go to the Ombudsman, before she eventually got her refund. My advise is DON’T DEAL WITH CITI, THEY ARE A COMPLETE SHOWER!
