Tampered with leccy meter! Will I go to gaol???
Hi,
I've moved in to a new (to me) house and there was a continual noise coming from the ancient looking electricity meter under the stairs. The electrician I've employed for other work removed the old part leaving the modern meter. It transpires I'm on 2 meters - one for day and one for night (the economy 7).
I've phoned the electricity company and explained there is now only one meter and I'd like to go to a single rate. I've also requested an engineer comes out asap to check the meter over. I haven't said it was my spark mate who has been a right plum!
I suppose the question is - will they be decent about things and just estimate my usage for the last couple of weeks? Prosecute me as the current homeowner (they had a reading just before I moved in)? Or, hit me with some sort of fine?
I'm bricking it whilst I wait to hear from them so if anyone knows the answer to the above, please let me know.
All the best
Dave

You say you just moved in to the house?
If so, wasnt it like that when you got there?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
That's the approach I've been taking - must look pretty suspect though as there was a physical meter reading in June.
Anyone have some experience of this situation though from either side (consumer or utilities worker)?0 -
I am not clear what you are saying here.
Has your 'electrician mate' bypassed the old meter and removed this meter? Thus you have unmeasured electricity in the house.
Or has he wired it so all electricity to the house goes through one meter? If so is it going through the E7 meter or the daytime meter?0 -
sounds a bit dodgy to me. It is more than any decent leccy worth his salt would do to remove the boards equipment, unlless he is on mates rates!!!! Know what I mean arry
very tounge in cheek. I can see a man being led away in handcuffs.0
