My son struggled through primary and high school especially when it came to putting things down on paper. He could work it all out in his head, and explain anything, but putting it on paper was something he just couldnt manage. He would get his Ps & 9s muddled up along with others, and could write down a mathematical problem and the answer but couldnt show the working out on paper, (it was all done in his head), he is brilliant at mental arithmatic. Anyway in 2007 he left high school and started a level 3 at college which he has now finished and will be starting a foundation degree in september. I asked about him being assessed for dyslexia and they arranged it and after the consultation told him he was borderline dyslexic.
Would he be able to get any additional support apart from his Student finance when he starts University?

He can apply for Disabled Students Allowance though depending on precisely when he had his dyslexia report done and who by, he may need another one. For more information about how to aply and what evidence is needed see the link.0

Get in touch with the university themselves. They will have support available and he will probably be invited to go and discuss his needs. He will be able to get help at exam time and at my university (Stirling) dyslexic students are provided with a dictaphone and laptop.
Also the student union might have a disabled students' officer. They will be able to guide him about what is available.0 -
thanks for the help, I will look into it further0

did he not get a copy of the report? If not ask for one so you can sew what was said. i didn't realise you could be border dyslexic not sure if he will get a dsa award unless he is dyslexic.
But from the way you describe him he sounds as if he might wel be dyslexic.
was he assessed au cllege or uni?
If he sees student support at uni he will re reassessed. Did he put dyslxic on his uni application? If so the uni may wellcn tact him anyway.
When he has the test he must be really honest and not worry if he sounds stupid, the assessor wamts a true idea of his problems, often kids don't like being thought as failing.
A child I support a school could hardly read and muddled all his letters up (dates and phone nos worse usually) but in his test retended he was fine!!!! so he didn't get support he realy needed.0
