You get control of the DNS entries as well as forwarding which is all that some support.

Before you do, do a quick search for "123-reg vouchers/offers". Sometimes you can find some quite good promotions.

Unless they've changed since I last looked some years back 1&1 don't offer DNS control so you'd either need to use them for hosting too or use "web forwarding" which is pretty much useless if you want to get the site indexed by search engines properly.

I've registered with 123.reg literally yesterday using quidco. Quidco have a voucher code: "For 25% offuk.com domains use code: quidco25" but not what you're after.
