There are some cheap advances available to Lymington Pier £9.25 out £6.60 return. Not sure if that would be convenient though as that ferry ends up in Yarmouth.

Sorry to be adding something a bit late

London Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour direct on Southern, advance fare £5

Put via Barnham in the advanced search if necessary or to reduce the clutter

There don't seem to be any similar trains for the return though, unless you wait until Sunday to go home.

Southampton usually also has these advance singles on Southern to Victoria for from £5, but apparently not during that week

So maybe the £5 advance heading south and that £12 Southern day rover ticket on the way home

When are you going, when are you coming back, and how old are the children?
  • Student Money Saver are giving away 30k e-vouchers which give you £10 off any train tickets.

They're releasing the codes at 7pm tomorrow

Has anyone been able to actual get any of these tickets? I am trying to arrange for 2 adults and 3 children to travel to London for a couple of days in July. Received the special offer flyer today from school and yet the site seems to show no availability for any of the trains that I am trying to get. Anybody know of tricks or a search technique? ???

The best tip to get cheap tickets is to always take your time.

You need to split the tickets using the MSE app which will always show you whether dividing your journey is the best idea.
  • Hello

Just wondering whether anyone can help me find a cheaper ticket currently getting £94.10 return. It will be for 22nd December London to Leeds getting there by about 5pm and then 23rd December returning anytime after 12pm from Leeds to London. 1 adult.

    Thank you

It might be worth while splitting at Doncaster - particularly if Grand Central have a train from London to Doncaster at the time you want. Or maybe Bradford (they don't serve Leeds)

The fare you have found is walk on - it doesn't need to be bought in advance

At this late stage splitting isn't going to save a bomb - even if it works at all

Do you have to travel on these dates?

It may be worth looking at the dates around these times as there may be some cheaper tickets!

    There's £21 on the 18:15 arriving 22:18, a bit more in First.

The 19:22 from Peterborough arrives 20:47 and is £23.50
It originates at London at 18:35, and the London - Pbo section is £20, so £43.50 all in. If you catch the 18:30 (to Newcastle) to Peterborough that's £16.50. It arrives on the same platform.

Coming back, there's a £21 fare on the 13:59, but it takes 4 hr 17. Otherwise £34.75 total for an Advance Leeds - Peterborough, then Peterborough - London (on the same train).

Eastcoast do half price super-off-peak singles on their website (£46.55), so you could buy one for the outbound and catch any train, and then use the £34.75 Advances for the inbound, so £81.30 all in.
