Could try and go to victoria and get the tube up to Kins cross then.. Though that may need a separate ticket as you would be travelling with a different company - unless you had an unrestricted ticket.

Without looking at where the engineering works are that date i cant help any further

Check out groupsave4 or groupsave3. If you choose this option under the 'railcard' option of your ticket search AND you're travelling in a group of 3 or 4 AND you're travelling off-peak you get 4(or 3) tickets for price of 2 - bargain, but well hidden!!! you can add your London travelcard on too.

  • I am trying to find the cheapest ticket to go from Cardiff to Cheshunt on 11th Feb. I would like to stay in London during the day then go onto Cheshunt in the evening. I have looked at going straight to Cheshunt and not stopping at London, but I fancy doing some shopping. The prices were reasonable yesterday but now seem to have doubled today, typical as I was just about to book.

Does anyone know the best way to get the tickets cheaper? Could I split the route?

    Cheaper? Cheaper than what?
    What have you found?

Advance Singles are available on your date for £18.50 on 11:55 and 12:55 Cardiff departures to London.
Anytime single from Liverpool Street to Cheshunt is £6.50.
You will also need to get from Paddington to Liverpool St somehow.

Advance Singles from Cardiff to Cheshunt are available on those same two trains for just £1.50 more, which includes cross London travel. But I am unsure whether you are allowed an 'extended time' to cross London. As there are no reservations on the Cheshunt bit, you would probably be ok.

Could try splitting. Try Didcot. Or anywhere else the train stops.

Maybe your expectations are unrealistic - a single at £20 for the through journey sound good to me, though you couldn't stop off in London on it. The same trains have £18.50 singles to Paddington

I can't see you beating that with split ticketing.
  • Can anyone help with trying to get my upcoming train journey any cheaper….

I’m travelling from Preston to London (Wembley Arena) on 25 February and stopping overnight at the Premier Inn next to the arena.

There are 2 adults and the cheapest I can find is £149.00. Am I likely to get it any cheaper?

    Thanks in advance J

Couple of options to think about.

On direct trains there are no advance tickets available. Note that the vast majority of direct services run non-stop from Preston or Warrington to London, so the splitting tickets trick doesn't work in this case (i've checked fares from Wigan and Warrington to be sure).

However, if you are willing to change at Crewe, there are massive savings to be made.

    For example:

Off Peak Return Preston-Crewe £22.20 each
Advance tickets from Crewe-London Euston start at £8 each way depending on time of day.

Do you have any idea of desired departure / arrival times?
