Work placement contract terminated!

Hello everyone. Just need some advice really,
I have been working at a hotel full time as part of my degree course on a work placement.
However, today I got handed a letter and had a "meeting" with my managers to say that my contract is going to be terminated on 2nd August.
Two things: this letter I got today had yesterdays date on it , but I only found out about it today.
Another: they are basically giving me 5 days notice instead of 7!
Is this legal?
Plus I havent taken any holidays during theyear since the holiday start year (our one is from april) so I already have about 6 accuired days. Can they make me take them during my notice period? (but theres only 4 working days left for me) or can I take it after?
Thank You to everyone in advance.
