have you input the miles as it does a guess on 40k

if that is the price then i think you will have to sell it and buy a cheaper one as the OR will do it or give you the option to buy the extra cost so anything from 2k to the value of the car. if the OR does take and sell then they will give you about 2k to buy another one and keep the rest for creditors so it maybe better doing it yourself and then keep the fees money back and let them have the rest

Did try to get an idea on parkers, but when I upped the mileage, it would have cost for the valuation.

I suppose when we've moved etc, as thats when DH is looking to go BR, we'd better start looking for another car.

Once DH has been discharged, can he then buy a newer car?
  • yes once hes discharged he can do what he likes he can even buy a private jet if he wants:D

    :rotfl:be nice.

I'm just worried as we'll probably end up with a car that's got loads of problems with it.
  • for 2k he can buy a decent car. its only for 1 year unless he gets early discharge, im trying to save for a decent car as mines a m reg vauxhall astra and looks abit of a state but it gets me from A to B.

if it gets me to lowestoft and back next week ill love it forever. (its a 2 half hour drive, ive got RAC cover, im hoping i wont have to use it, otherwise my dad will be getting a phonecall to come and get me:D)

That's it, as long as it gets DH to work, and us to shopping, doctors, hospital etc, then thats OK.

Is there anyway a family member could buy it off DH, and DH buy it back when been discharged?
  • the OR will want the differnce between 2k and the value, they take anything from 50% of the difference up to the value so if it is worth £4575 take off the 2k allowence leaves you £2575 you will have to make up the differnce

you can start by offering 1-1.5k and negoiciate as when the OR sells it you have to take out collection and auction costs. so if you have a family member that can get the money to buy it then the OR should be fine, i think they normally allow 2 installments of the money some allow more some dont
