The Car.

I believe my OH may lose the car when going BR?
Not sure the value of it, but he has a Ford Mondeo Estate, 2005 (55 reg)
At the moment we live in Nottingham, so the commute to DH work in Derby is about 28 miles there, 28 miles back, however because we'll be moving to Derby before going BR, he won't have so many miles to travel.
It concerns me, not having transport, as I have to rely on DH to take myself and our son to hospital/doctors appointments (due to his disability he is under a paedatrician and hospital)
Does anyone know what will happen regards the car? What its worth? Will the OR take it from us?
Thanks again.

Hiya,
I think but others more knowledgeable may know more, if you need a car for essential things like hospital appointments then you may keep the car.
its possible depending on the value that the OR takes the car but allows you a certain amount up to £2000 for another one. so if you have to sell it and make £3000 you pay the OR £1000
check out the parkers guide for the value and go from there.
I might be wrong on the actual amounts, but you will need to make a case - although im sure as your son is disabled that would be a very good reason.0 -
hi as bethankim says if you only need it for hospital visits once you move, could you sell it and just buy a cheap runabout as you may have a better chance of keeping it.
i was allowed to keep my car as my nan is a dependant and i needed it for her hospital visits and shopping otherwise she wouldnt be able to go herself and i have 2 young children so getting cabs would not only cost a fourtune, with the cars seats aswell would have been very practicle
how often are the hospital visits? if they are very regular and is not really practicle by public transport then you may have a case of keeping it but i would suggest maybe selling it and getting a cheaper car and use the money for fees and shopping and let the OR have the rest

And I love this car too

I recently got awarded DLA for our 3 year old son, who's hospital visits/doctor visits vary regards how often etc.
Public transport would be awkward, as sometimes hospital visits are at last minute, and plus it would probably cost me an arm and a leg, as there's myself, DH, and daughter (over 5) that we have to pay for.
Will let DH know, and I suppose he'd better get looking around for another car, is the rate upto £2000.00?
What if he buys a car for £2000.00 and the OR values it at more on Parkers?
Thanks again everyone

if you can prove by doctors records/notes that the car is needed for your son then it should be ok. but there is a question on the price
click on this link ive input most of the details but dont know the enging size so just click the right one and it will show you the price. look for poor condition.
let us know what it says and we maybe able to help with more options

If I've got the right car, its a Ford Mondeo LX TDCI 130 BHP 2005 (55 plate.
Valuation says
£5850 private good
£4575 Private poor
This is on 40000 miles though, and its done nearly 60000
We only paid £4995.00 for it, in good condition.
Just had it valued by webuyanycar.com and they've offered £3,6700 -
have you input the miles as it does a guess on 40k
if that is the price then i think you will have to sell it and buy a cheaper one as the OR will do it or give you the option to buy the extra cost so anything from 2k to the value of the car. if the OR does take and sell then they will give you about 2k to buy another one and keep the rest for creditors so it maybe better doing it yourself and then keep the fees money back and let them have the restIf you want to see the rainbow ,you gotta put up with some rain0 -
webuyanycar always under value anyway as they want to make a good profit.
the OR mostly go by parkersIf you want to see the rainbow ,you gotta put up with some rain0
