Overloading Car - Fine & Invalid Insurance

I did a quick search and didn't find anything similar.

I saw a report on the news today about overloading cars and how you could get points on your licence, fine and invalidate insurance. This was not something I thought about but I supose that with more people holidaying in the UK perhaps could be a hot issue.

not just a fine and some points, serious fine and serious points, the vehiclel would also need to be loaded evenly.
you might still be insured to a certain extent though.

As far as I am aware, overloading a vehicle isn't an endorsable offence, unless it's so overloaded that it's in a dangerous condition, which is a separate offence, and endorsable.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

a serious offence would see you in court. a guy i worked with a few years ago ended up being taken to the police station after his van was over loaded, luckily he came just within the 10% limit and got off with it but if he was just over that he would have been in court, the police and VOSA are clamping down on this all year round, but mostly with commercial vehicles.

Yes, VOSA have been clamping down for a while. For VOSA, the limit's 5%, and now being dealt with by fixed penalties: 5-10% = £60, 10-15% = £120, 15-30% £200, over 30% = off to court, over 50% possibly dangerous condition too.

Overloading's not endorsable though. The offence of dangerous condition - extremely overloaded, in such a way that the handling or braking of the vehicle is affected, is endorsable. VOSA don't tend to target private motorists. The police might - not sure of their % leeway, but it would have to be pretty bad to land you in court.
