hi,
basically have just bought a house. The current provider is Npower for both gas & electric. However the electric is pre-payment. Now i assume that i call npower to get it changed to a credit meter (as i dont want pre-payment). I know it takes a few weeks to switch which i wish to do. Anyone comment on who i call first the existing or new provider?
thanx in advance of any reply.

I did this when i moved to a new rented house... elec and gas meteres were with EDF and on pre-payment. I rang them up to get them changed over. Took 2 weeks or so... we just had to top up the pre-payment until then.. Little inconvience but not alot.

Make sure you tell them you havent accrued any debt on pre-payment as sometimes when they adjust prices its 40+ quid in debt. EDF were ok with this with us.

Btw EDF didnt but some supplier charge you up to 100 quid to change meters over.
  • BG quoted me something like £80 to switch from pre-pay. I switched to Ebico and they did it free of charge when my account went over to them (United Utilities actually installed the new meter here in the N.W.)

There was a discrepancy over the amount of credit still on the meter at the time of the switch, but Ebico did credit me with it.

THe lesson as always is record accurately all readings on the meters and back that up with photgraphic evidence.
