Hello
I'm purchasing a car and want a receipt from the selller for it. Can anyone direct me to some standard (or non-standard) wording that can protect the buyer, please?
Thanks

The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

SELLER'S NAME AND ADDRESS
Received
from M_____________ of ___________(address)______________ (buyer)
The sum of £____________ for the transfer to the above named buyer of all
legal title and ownership of the motor vehicle bearing the registration mark _____________
Signed _________________________ (seller)
You can replace "motor vehicle" with the colour, make and model of the car if you prefer. The seller may want to add their own condition such as "sold as seen" or a declaration of road worthiness at the time of sale for the purposes of section 75 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. These things work both ways and the seller will want some protection too.
The receipt is only for the money. Remember you must fill in your name and address details on the seller's V5C and sign it to enable the seller to transfer the registered keeper. Be sure to detach and keep the green slip V5C/2 as your receipt for this purpose.
There is a world of difference between the registered keeper and the legal owner.0
