Battery pack coming to the end of its life ... again!!

hi,

I'm sure i've posted about this before .... ;((( My laptop says my battery pack is coming to the end of its life. I only had it replaced kast summer (!!) paid for by my warrenty. I have emailed Dell and they have emailed me back saying that another battery pack is not covered by my warrenty as Ive already had one and they want to send me another at a cost of £120!!

Is it possible to buy one cheaper? where and what sort of prices am I looking at?

Thanks for any advice. This is really worrying as I have essays to work on and I need the laptop for the next month at least.

remove when on mains , its the continual charge/uncharge cycle that does them in , friends Dell has NEVER been run on the battery , 2 batteries failed within 2 years like yours

A Laptop battery usually lasts for 2000-3000 plugins . Plugins being everytime you plug your power adaptor (power switch on) into your laptop counts as one plugin. found this out years ago when a laptop battery just went. Now all the laptops i have are purely run off the mains other than once a month i plug them in once just to keep them charged up and working.

Take the battery out from underneath the laptop , and then plug the ac adaptor into the mains plug on the laptop.

    Very interested in this!

I too have a Dell & it's just started telling me that my battery has reached the end of it's natural life. It is 18 mths old.

Was thinking I could just get a cheap battery to replace it, obviously not!

Didn't know you could unplug the battery-was always lead to believe that the battery had to be in at all times which has never made sense to me but I'd never dare question 'those in the know'!

Erm Dont remove the battery WHILE your plugged into the mains. You should remove while the laptop is off and NO power is entering the laptop. normally there are two locks underneath . one is a spring loaded lock and the other one is a click lock. basically you undo the click lock and then pull back the spring loaded one. Sometimes the springloaded will pop the battery out. take the battery out and keep it in a place that it wont get to cold or too hot.

then you can plug the AC adaptor into the laptop (like usual) and turn it on.

This will save the life of your battery.ALOT

I'm sorry for being dim but I cant see how this can connect to the laptop!!

I have a lead with a silver pin plug this has a wire leading to the battery. In the battery connects another lead, this has no connection that I can see that could go into the back of my computer.
