Hi all,
Long story short, our house had stood emtpy for a while and the gas was off, had been condemed due to a leak. Was all fixed and a new meter installed and end of January this year we had central heating fitted. It was with a combi boiler which we have at home and is efficient.
As work was being done, plastering and painting etc... although the house was empty, we had the heating running to dry things out.
When it became warmer it was obviosuly turned off.
I last week got a bill for nearly £400! from a reading so it is not estimated.
Now, I believe the heating was used for 3, maybe 4 months on and off, there are no other appliences, so i just cannot see how it comes to this much.
We have now let the house out and the tenants have changed suppliers.
I asked the company about a check meter but they claim it has to be from the new supplier and may incour a £100 fee if no fault is found?
They suggested the would knock 5% off, then 10, now 15%, although this is still a lot of money for what i feel not that much gas being used.
It seems a lot of money to me, or am i wrong? I am unsure how to handle this as they just want their money!
Any advice from heating engineers or people who have had the same welcome!
Cheers!

Did you not notice the temperature this January? £400 sounds cheap for four months unattended (and builders attending) use.
Also, did you tell your supplier your gas was off? You weren't still paying standing charges, were you? (sorry if that's an insulting suggestion!)0 -
(Has the temperature dropped where you are? Ask your tenants to take some readings when they have the heating on and see how much they use of an evening.)0
