Opening a Barclays Graduate Account
mipage
I've just become a graduate this year and I'm one of the lucky ones to be in a fulltime job. I was planning to get a loan of around £2500 but then realised as a graduate I could get an 0% overdraft. After looking around I think I'm going to apply for a Graduate account at Barclays, £7/mo fee, £3000 overdraft (works out cheaper than graduate loan rates).
The trouble is, where I live now is some 300 miles away from my parents. Everything in my credit history is linked to my parents address, electoral roll, current bank accounts, etc. I did this mainly because as a student I was moving all the time and didn't want to bother changing everything each time. (I also plan to move within the next couple of months).
Now I want to get some credit if I give Barclays my own address (where I've been for 1 year), won't this mis-match once they do a credit check? Also changing/updating my address for my current banks & electoral roll etc now would be bad for my credit rating as I understand it (and take some time).
Right now it'll say I've been at my "current" [parents] address for 6 years, on the electoral roll for that time, and overall look pretty good.
I have no problem keeping everything at my parents' address as I do still consider this to be my "permanent" address, whereas I'm more traveller-like right now. However, if I put my parents address down as my current address, it'll be 300 miles away from 1) the branch I apply at 2) my employers address.
What's the best thing to do in this situation?

If I were you I would keep everything in your parent's address. I don't think that address being a long way from the bank or employer is an issue at all. After all, you could always apply for the bank account online and then the bank you apply at isn't relevant. I've just graduated and I'm also leaving everything in my parents address until I'm living somewhere that I know I'm going to stay for more than a few months - it's just too much hassle to keep moving addresses around. Fortunately my parents don't mind forwarding post to me every now and again.0
