Possible excessive bank charges

DD(age 18)checked her account balance on her Abbey current account today, and found she was approx £5 overdrawn. When she opened the account we were led to believe she would be unable to overdraw on the account (I was with her and got the same impression) , when she went into the bank she was told that they do not check small transactions and if there was a charge it would be £25 plus another £35 not sure why the two charges they have said there is no charge at present showing on the account but may appear at a later date the overdraw would have happened last Friday. She has put money into the account today to clear the overdraft . A couple of questions
1) When would any charge be likely to appear
2) What should we do if she is charged
Many Thanks
Kathy

If it is the first time she has been charged then get her to write a letter and state it was the first time and she was unaware she could go overdrawn on her card and that she paid money in as soon as she realised she was overdrawn.

Popped into bank today they had added a £35 charge but when we explained that DD had asked for an account she could not overdraw on the charge was removed and D knows to keep a closer eye on her spending from now on
