Thankyou all for your prompt responses, i guess i thought i could take the £6,000 cash out on my abbey credit card, then immediatley transfer the cash as a balance transfer onto the new 0% balance transfer with no fees with Halifax? what do you think of that?

Cash Advances are only a percentage of your Credit Line, so you must have a very high Line of Credit to want to take some £6k from your Card as an advance, I think the bank may question as to why you would want to use the card in this way. Check your Statement, and it generally tells you what you could have as cash, against what Credit Line you have, even if you were to do this, I doubt you could take it in one go, you may need to take it in stages, and if it's anything like Nationwide, after a few "fishy" transactions, your card will either be stopped, or The Fraud team call you to see if the transactions are actually within your normal patten of card useage.
