Cheap Ferry Crossings!!!! Please!!!!

I need a cheap ferry crossing from either Caen, San Malo or Cherbourg in the South of France, to the UK. It's for a van and a caravan so ferry companies like Condor Ferries are no good as they don't take high vehicles.

So far the cheapest I've come up with is £219 for a one-way crossing, which seems very expensive!

And I've tried https://www.aferry.fr which was recommended on this site forum, but they are quoting 400 euros! Please help us find cheaper!!!

Errrm... Caen, St Malo and Cherbourg are not in the south of France, but have you tried https://www.ferrysavers.com? Also, LD Lines (https://www.ldlines.co.uk) operate to Le Harve from Portsmouth, would that be suitable? You give no indication of what dates you're looking for, so not much that I can do other than those links.
  • Sorry, yes, North France! We're in the South of France, and those ports are nearest for us to travel to.

Dates are round about the 13th July. I'll try those links, thanks.

It's further north but LD Lines are two thirds cheaper than anybody else, basic travel but I live near Toulouse half the year and it does me great.

Are you looking for a one way or a return crossing? If you only want one way it is sometimes cheaper to book a return and not use the return crossing

Beware that some operators will bill you on the CC for a single so if you can, pay CASH for your day return and you should be home and dry.

www.aferry.to has always been good for me but you do see prices rise on 5-day+ returns and one-way trips.

BTW the price does not seem too bad for an overnighter (which I assume it is?) Factor that against drive-time, fuel, wear-and-tear and it's not sooo bad....
In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?

http://www.norfolkline-ferries.com/ have sent me an email with a code HS2 to quote. They are only Dover Dunkirque - I dont know if thats too far north for you but on a quicky looky it seemed that a one way seemed very reasonable. Let me know what you think.

If you want to cross the Western Channel, then there is only Condor Ferries from St Malo, Brittany Ferries from Roscoff, St Malo, Cherbourg and Caen, LD Lines from Le Havre or Transmanche from Dieppe. The best deal is LD Lines which is a new service started last October. Last week-end they were absolutely full, so they are doing something right. The ship is clean and tidy and comfortable bu the prices are low. Last month they were offering £47 return as a special. I am only paying £160 return in August. None of the others come anywhere near their prices.

I have just I have just been sent details of the new season ticket scheme by LD Lines. Each ticket is for one single crossing, so that means there are no penalties for staying longer. Each crossing costs £45 and I think the minimum is ten (i.e. five returns). If you buy 20 tickets, they throw in club class free of charge. Also the tickets are transferable, i.e. can be used by friends and family, but the booking has to be made by the purchaser.

It is not yet posted on their website, but if anyone wants to have details, I can forward a copy of what I have been sent. Email me at plh@shermans.co.uk
