Economy Gastronomy - new budget cookery programme; BBC

p.s. I will watch it, as I love food and food programmes.
I also love What To Eat Now, yummers! (I quite fancy the presenter too
)
I'm sure the food will all be v. expensive and more than I would ever spend but hope to pick up some tips. I'm OS for the same reasons as thriftlady - I hate waste and am trying to get value for money. And because I love the OS thread, it is fab and I admire you all enormously.
p.p.s. totally agree with all the comments about these TV chefs not living in the real world. I see it as escapism watching them cook expensive food in their fancy houses and huuuuge kitchens. Although a good educational prog about cooking from scratch and cheaply (proper cheaply!) would be most welcome too. I remember a few years ago watching a cooking programme where a celebrity chef went into a supermarket and said they would cook a meal using the contents of the trolley of the next person to come down the aisle.
Low and behold down came this lady with full make up on, hair done etc etc with a trolley full of smoked salmon, avocado etc etc!!! Not a value sausage in sight!!
I just feel it may be a bit like Kirsties Home Made House type thing where she made hand blown glasses which I have never heard of anyone doing then bought another 5 at goodness knows what cost. I don't think these people live in the real world as a lot of people know it.0 -

Waste nothing.
Tumbledowns? Oh dear. What's wrong with using the term *leftovers*? :rolleyes:0 -

Have to admit that one made me giggle as well - can see my family's face if I told them we were having Tumbledown pork for dinner - instead of the usual "l/o pork - thought I'd make sweet and sour" (from More with Less - very yummy!)“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I won't be holding my breath thoughI don't understand why they haven't jumped on the credit crunch bandwagon and produced the sort of programme you mention, made by someone who understands the problem of trying to feed a family on a low wage or benefits

... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
