  • It's called Garganneli Pasta with Purple sprouting Broccoli, and it's on page 175 in the book, but I can't find the recipe online. It's one of Paul's recipes though if that helps at all.

Because we don't call children from "straight" relationships "Heterobabies", or single parents kids "singabys".

I don't see why it's necessary to use a term like that - and I'm sure other people would have more issue with it than the child will to be quite honest with you.

I also find the term gayby offensive. Why did you write marriages with " around it? I don't think that's necessary!

For those complaining about the thread going off topic - unfortunately that happens from time to time. People say things, other people respond. I don't think it is off topic as such, because we are still discussing an aspect of the show

We are discussing differing opinions on a family who appeared in the show, so to me that's relevant. Bickering is unpleasant yes, but that's how it goes sometimes when people disagree. Personally I think it was great a same sex couple appeared and opened peoples eyes up. Fair play to them.

I didn't coin the term "gay" I don't go around proclaiming I am "straight" why can't people just be people? and until this forum I did not know you could have a same sex relations ship that was called a marriage(I thought it was a civil partnership which is rather a mouthful!) hence the " as not sure if it is in fact a correct term when applied to same sex couples

I do get a little fed up with all the "gay rights" issues, just get on with life and ditch the titles, for the final time I only used the term gayby as OH said that's what was used,I had never heard it before tuesday and actually thought it sounded rather sweet especially if you use the correct original term of gay to mean happy!

can we please move on now?

I wasn't actually having a go at you. I was genuinely asking why you " the marriage. Thanks for clarifying that.:D

People do and will get upset if they feel same sex couples are being disparaged (I'm not saying you disparaged them btw). That's just life. You wouldn't say that about someone with a disability or a different race - they are entitled to equal rights, as are gay , straight, what ever people choose to label themselves

  • Just to let people know, I have really enjoyed this series. I have enjoyed watching how the familes go from wasting food to learning how to cook, shop, budget and use left overs. Although I was brought up to be thrifty and always try to be thrifty, it is always useful to get some new ideas to try without lots of expensive or hard to find ingredients. The recipies also seem to take into account that people do not have lots of time for cooking every night and have quick recipes for those nights. I have tried the chocolate brownie biscuits - I whisked the mixture for at least 5 mins at the beginning and it was quite thick. I did not use any nuts, just extra white chocolate. The biscuits did spread out a lot but were still edible. A friend rang me while I was cooking them so the second lot went in a good 10 mins later and I found the mixture had firmed up a lot and I used a smaller amount for each biscuit and I found these were better biscuits. So I would suggest putting the mixture in the fridge for about 10 mins before you bake them to firm the mixture up. I have also tried the chicken escalope recipe which was a sucess with my husband!

All threads do have tendency to wander.

But to me it is becoming personal. Such as the ugly tree comment. What does it matter what the make up of the family is. Gay, Straight, Short, tall, fat or ugly, 10 children or no children. The same goes for the presenters.

But why are discussing the families/presenters and not the food and cooking. As that is what the show is about. Not the make up of the family/presenters involved.

If you want to discuss that then go over to the arms.

Back on topic. I still have to watch this week show. And have bought 1.3kg pork shoulder and will try the lasagne next week. Don't normally make it as I don't like cheese sauce. But will just make a white sauce.

    Yours

This is precisely why I don't like the reality element of this sort of programme. I'd much rather it was just the two chefs teaching folk how to cook economically. But the introduction of real families makes it personal and voyeuristic, and of course good for ratings.
  • I'm so sorry I really didn't mean to open up this can of worms by asking if one of the men were called Daddy what the other one was called
I have no problem with their being a couple and yes totally agree that they absolutely loved that little girl I was just purely asking a question as someone pointed out if that little girl had two brothers called by the same name then that would be confusing , my two children have two nans and two grandads each are called nan ( followed by their christian name ) same for the grandads but if I ever just say Nan they automatically ask which one I'm speaking about , so I just out of curiosity wondered how the little girl differentiated between her two parents
also I have made the chocolate brownie biscuits without success I'm afraid
  • what went wrong with the brownies Sunrise?

they were just one big runny mess , they didn't look right from the minute I made the mixture and then just ran all over the baking sheet, didn't cook and were a nightmare
I followed the recipe and was sooooooooo looking forward to them , I'm well know for making homemade cakes and biscuits so I like to think I know what I'm doing
if you have better luck then let me know I'd love to know what I did wrong
