Hi all
After salavating at the home made kebabs and realising that I could not afford to buy 1lb lamb, just for a snack, i was really disappointed. HOWEVER.... tonight in Asda frozen, I bought 2 packs of lamb leg steaks in garlic and herb marinade: they are reduced from £3.99 to £1.00!!!!. added a little of the white cabbage bought for sunday lunch, some yogurt ( mixed with spices from the rack), and some tomatoes from the garden. I bought 2 packs of wraps for £2.00, so I reckon that i fed 5 of us (2 kebabs each) for £4.30! Allegra eat your heart out!
P.s. by the way....I also bought the Arla milk whilst i was out....it is now down to 74p for 4 pints!0 -
Was just wondering whether to post the same thing about B00k People.... my copy is now on order (along with a HSM2 book for elder GD for Christmas, and a few other cookbooks for me). Had been debating getting this book, but this offer clinched it for meCheryl0

PasturesNew wrote: »The reason I'd fry them in a frying pan and not deep fry is partly because I don't deep fry anything (and don't have the pan), but also I try not to use the oven. It's a waste to turn on a whole oven (that takes 30 minutes to heat up) just to cook a small amount. Ovens are for people that live in households of more than one and/or have a freezer.
I have adapted what/how I cook based on if I can keep it 2-3 days in a fridge and nuke it - and if I'm really likely to be able to/want to eat that one item every day for the next 3-4 days.
Oven sounds a good idea though, they could be cooked alongside other things for those people that were already using the oven for something else, so good to cook ahead, then maybe nuke on the night.
Thanks for that PasturesNew. I haven't considered the costs of using the oven. I made the bajis and deep fried them, but they were a bit greasy for me. I think I'll cook the onions with spices and then shallow fry them. Also, I halved the quantities of the almond rice (which was lovely nom nom) but it was a bit too much for the 2 of us. BF was well impressed at the bajis.0 -

Well done! Silly question, what is arla milk?
I tried the biryani - the texture of the rice was great, but flavour wise i found it dull. I did use brown rice though, so wasnt sure if it would have needed more flavouring/. It made far far too much for two people. The chicken however i found fantastic!
I would try that biryani method again, perhaps researching flavourings etc - bu the rice was cooked lovely - i did leave it an extra 5 as brown rice.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
