A&L bank charges

Hi all,

I have an account with Alliance & Leicester which I only use for paying my direct debits/standing orders... I have claimed finacial hardship with them (approx Feb/March '09) and they refunded half the overdraft fee charges that I had claimed, telling me that this was fair as I was aware of the charges that I would incure and, therefore, I should now drop the matter.

Unfortuneatley I have now managed to clock up another £534 worth of charges... my question is, do I claim again or am I doing exactly as they want by thinking that I won't get anywhere as I've been told to go away and be happy with what I've got!?

I could really do with the money back as I am on the edge of losing alot... I also want to close the account, but as it is perpetually in the overdraft, I don't know if I can as I don't have the money to get me back in the black...

HELP!???

Do you have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities)?

yes. All bills go out of this account (gas/elec/phone/etc)...except my rent (i have a LOVELY landlady who is very relaxed about when I pay the rent... I am currently 3months in arrears with it...)

ermmm, start the process. Is there a reason why you weren't able to cover the Direct Debits going out of the account for example, loss of employment?

it's a very long and complicated story...but basically:

I'm self employed. I wrote my Van off last year. The replacement car I bought with the insurance money turned out to be non legal & I'm currently going through the small claims to get the money back. As well as not having a decent work vehicle (ie: work I could do was limited due to having (another) car not a van), I also had 3 jobs cancelled/postponed and 1 didn't pay, so I was eating into my overdraft and simply didn't pay enough attention to the charges mounting up.

I have since bought a new second hand car (with a loan from my Father) and am working as much as I can, but I never seem to be able to get on top of my finances due to money going straight out to pay debts as soon as I get it.
  • I would put in a claim and explain the circumstances and see what they say.
