One of the noticable things to come from this is that the energy prices now only account for ~60% of energy bills, 3-4 years ago the energy price accounted for ~90% of the bill.

This ratio is only going to keep decreasing because of the increasesd social and CERT payments.

No Junior I don't work for the government

Seriously, I do think that the energy companies are making unfounded statements why prices will not be reduced (extra other costs, overheads etc..), I prefer to trust the facts from OFGEM who state that prices should be reduced by up to 10%.

No it didn't. Plenty of literature out there that shows it as 40%-50% at around that time.

I think more of it will be because the wholesale prices are going down. At least in the short term.

This shows the lies from the energy companies.
They put the prices up soon enough, within a few months so why is it taking so long to drop them?

Scottish and Southern Energy - "With forward annual wholesale prices significantly higher, and with upward pressures in terms of distribution, environmental and social costs, seeking to avoid an increase between now and the end of 2010 is an important goal."

That is little more than a sick joke, any social and enviromential costs are tiny compared with how much they put the prices up.

Nothern Ireland is cutting it's prices by a further (miserly) 5% why not the UK companies?

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0915/electricity.html

OFGEM are an absolute disgrace, anyone looking at the wholesale costs and how they have fallen, and remained low for so long, can see that.

Anyone who is not a fool or who is not on the energy prices gravy chain can see that.
The energy companies are as bad as the bankers and OFGEM are turning a blind eye, just as the finiancial regulators did, it is to all extents and purposes a crime.

OFGEM actually seem to be in on the act look at the wholesale costs in fig 2.2 in this report, why doe it not reflect the huge drop I show in the graph above?

And finally this insult form OFGEM

A spokesman for Ofgem said: "It is not for us to say when or if companies should reduce their bills. But we would like to think if wholesale prices remain at this low level, pressure will come from the market for prices to fall."

So if it is nothing to do with OFGEM then what are they there for?

If the government needs to save money then it can do so by getting rid of waste of space organistions such as OFGEM.

"presssure will coome from the market"?? It is clear the market is running a cartel.

So sack OFGEM, they admit they are not there to regulate gas prices so why are we paying them their fat wages?
