Tesco online will no longer accept maestro..they say it is being phased out...........is this so..?

Seems weird how an entire payment system is being withdrawn, so something must be happening somewhere.

I think it will be replaced by mastercard (maestro is part of it), but not 100% sure, I know that some country (France) are no longer using maestro slowly but been replaced my mastercard so I would think that most of europe will follow soon

HSBC have recently changed my debit card from Maestro to Visa, and I believe some other banks are doing/planning the same.

remember Maestro is the old switch system so it is not chip and pin friendly........ it was always going to need renewing also the reason most UK banks are ditching Maestro for Visa is acceptability.

Final point, foreign Maestro don;t work here (cos we use the old JCCC system) therefore most Irish or foreigners couldn't spend in shops.

All banks are - the only exception will be Yorkshire Bank / Clydesdale Bank who allegedly are going to Mastercard Debit which is kinda new to the UK (replacing Maestro).....

Natwest (RBS) will be the last big Maestro user to merge to Visa debit soon enough....
