Bailiff Advice needed Urgently

Hi there,
apologies if i've posted in the wrong place.
We have an out standing Council tax bill from last year, we managed a few hit and miss instalments and then about 2 months ago we paid £550 after a second van visit, which has left the balance owing (including Bailiffs fees) at £950.
I've phoned the bailiff today to offer an immediate £140 with £200 to follow monday and the rest of the £950 by the end of next week. Unfortunately he said that they will be here at about 8pm this evening and that this years bill had now been added to it taking the balance to well over £2000
He has said that we need to pay last years £950 in full tonight or they will take the goods.
I have no chance of raising any more than I have offered and so I guess the inevitable will happen. What I need to know is can they only take what they put on the walking possession order or can they take what they like? I asked him this question and he didn't realy answer, just said it would be easier to tell me what they'd leave.
Because they've added this year's C-tax to it can they 're-do' the walking Order and take anything? or is it a myth that their powers are limited to what is on the original walking order?
Hope someone can advise

I wish I could help you and hope you get some good advice soon.
Can't you ring the council and ask their advice, particularly with regard to this years council tax? They might be willing to take back this years, this is what happened with me, I was lucky enough for them to ring the debt collection people and they put a stop to any more action provided I kept up with arranged payments.
Ring National Debtline immediately and ask their advice.

Right, have they been in the house and have you signed anything?
How much are the charges they've added?
I can't remember all the rules, but I know the people who do know what they're talking about will need to know the answers to those two questions.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

thanks for the replies both,
The council round these parts are a pretty unhelpful bunch, the last time I spoke to them I said that the stuff we'd got wouldn't raise more than a couple of hundred quid, the response was that I would probably end up in prison then. nice.
Yes they have a walking possesion order. I'm lost on the charges I'm afraid there's been so many.0 -
I'm pretty sure they can only add two charges, totalling about £42. If you've lost track then it seems they must have been adding illegal charges on!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I would try looking at the http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/ website.
Herbie21 is a poster here that works for these people and is a huge asset to those having trouble with bailiffs. I'm not sure if you would be able to PM her as you are new to the site, but it would be worth a try. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

NDL or CCCS are open until late.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
For what it is worth let them take the goods, it will give you breathing space to get the money before they put you in prison thats a long way off.
Have they took you to court for this years amount ? if not then it is not an issue .0 -

They can only take tonight what is on the original WPO.
The problem might be that since they are in the house, they do another WPO for the other account. Do not sign it.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
if you dont answer the dorr - they cant break in surely?O/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0

Once a WPO is signed the goods belong to the bailiff not to the debtor and they can call the police to effect entry. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
