paying dental charges

Hi, probably the wrong site - I can never find anything relevant.
Question is for people who, like myself are liable for full dental costs.
However, this doesn't mean that it's easy getting all the money needed.
Has anyone out there been faced with a large dental bill and if so, did the dentist allow you to pay over a period of time?

The dentist that we go to is private. He also has national health patients.
He does a payment plan where the amount due can be paid over a 6 month or 12 month period depending on the amount owed.
You need to ask your dentist about payment details.
Just give thme a ring i am sure they will be very helpful. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0 -
I get quite angry over this, I can't afford to go to the dentist!! I get IB and DLA my partner works f/t but does not get a great wage, we are not entitled to any help. I also have to pay for my prescriptions for this I pay monthly.
If I was on JSA I would get it for free, just don't understand the logic in this.0 -
No you wouldnt get it free if you were on JSA,
Dental costs and prescriptions are based on household income and if your OH works full time and you get
IB and DLA you are deemed to be able to afford it.
Been there, done that and managed to afford it even without the DLAmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Because IB and DLA are not means tested that is why. You can have a million in the bank and still claim.
Contribution JSA is only 6 months then you claim income based and if you then have a partner working you get nothing.
My husband is on IB and DLA and takes 6/7 tablets a day and has to pay for them all. Same with dental.
If you have a low income then you can claim help.

I'm going to look into getting help with costs, at the moment there is no way I could afford to have dental treatment. I take over 30 tablets a day plus morphine, I'm so glad I can get a pre-payment card it's a life saver.
Mind you dentists round here are like gold dust!!0 -

I'm exactly the same as you. get Incapacity benefit and a War Pension (it's the same as DLA I believe). It means I have full dental costs to pay and whilst a check up is ok. It's not so good when you need a lot done - or to be honest, you don't really need a lot done for the costs to mount up. I have a lot of fillings (despite looking after my teeth) I think they're just weak. I also clench my teeth which has caused a lot of fractures etc. And now the stress of being liable for full dental costs is making me clench them even more. The system is a real puzzler. It would make more sense if people on widely differing amounts were liable (or not), but when you know of people on similar amounts, but on different benefits (usually it's income support that allows free treatment) then it really is frustrating0
