And I just use my Blackberry if I want to check the time. If I manage to WIN a nice watch, then fair enough...

Okay. First of all, they are Swiss made, they have a swiss quartz movement. they can be found in "cheaper priced" watches with swiss movements but not a £10 market jobbie.

Second of all a clasp will be about £60 give or take on type of clasp - eg folding/pin buckle/gold/steel etc.

A battery change only will be about £30 but if they had to put a new seal on it'll prob be about £10-£15 more.

I know it all sounds expensive but it is the price Raymond Weil charge.

I took this watch to a local watch repairer, his words of wisdom, the clasp price is about right but the battery charge even with a new seal, very expensive, the quartz movement Japanese. These type of watches (£550) a rip off

I have a Raymond Weil W1, about 9 years old. In January I took it to my local, small jewellers shop. He replaced the battery, cleaned the dust away AND oiled it all for £7.50.

Sometimes it pays to shop around.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

My watch seems to go slower when I'm at work than it does when I'm at home.

    Should I get it serviced?

Now this is real luxury!

    Now you are talking!

I only ever buy Casio, and the last time was about ten years ago. If I leave the current one off my wrist for an hour, the display goes blank. Put it back on and it appears in a minute. The watch gains about ten seconds a year, and I cannot be bothered to synchronise it.

    Exactly.

I have had two Tag Heuer watches, the first one I gave to my father who took it to have the battery changed at a "Swiss watch specialist" (It was either Ernest Jones or Watches of Switzerland) and they wanted over £200 to send it away to the labs in Switzerland for a "full service" as it could only be done with special tools in a special environment etc.....

Luckily I told him in time that I had been to a local watch repair place every three or four years with mine, paid about £10 and never had a problem.

His is now over 15 years old and mine is getting on for 10 and both are still going strong.

My Tag cost £50 for a new battery from Ernest Jones just last week. They do send them away to be done as the seal has to be replaced at the same time. My local jeweller offered to replace the battery but told me they couldn't reseal it, which is pointless when you have a waterproof watch.

The salesman at EJ even told me the price was extortionate, but where else can you go for the job to be guaranteed? At the end of the day I guess it's only £1 a week.........and I do love my Tag :blushing:
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

That may be but not a lot, if any, jewellers have the facility to re-seal and pressure test watches. Hence using workshops.

Yes, we at work all agree £50 is extortionate but tag set the prices and what else can we do.

The repercusions could be more expensive if not done right.
