Just received a letter from First Direct regarding my claim for bank charges, the thing is though I am not sure if this is good news or not and would appreciate your advice-
(sorry that the scan is so big, i've not figured out how to make it any smaller)

Now is this letter saying that they will give me £108 now to help me out whilst they process my claim and that by taking £108 doesn't mean that they will consider the case closed (the amount I am claiming is £2600). Obviously £108 would be very helpful and I could mot my car but I don't want to settle for that when I believe I have a legitimate claim for the full amount.

  • You do once the OFT test case issues are completed. You can disagree with them but they do not have to refund even 1p of the claim.

The letter clearly states that you can claim the rest so your claim is not concluded

so i should send the slip back they have sent me asking for the £108 and this will not harm my claim but give me £108 to help me out in the meantime ?

That is basically what they are doing. they are not saying that the rest of the charges cannot be claimed but that it is redeemable at the conclsion of the OFT test case.

Have you done the credit card charges or PPI or catalogue charges?

Many thanks for your advice, I have sent my claim slip back. I have never had ppi as I always thought it was a rip off.

Just had a cheque for £108 from First Direct hit the door mat ! Big thanks to Ras who first told me about claiming for charges. I am going to celebrate by getting my glasses repaired as a lens had popped out some time ago and it means at night when I have removed my contacts I'll be able to watch tv in bed cos you can't beat Sky news before bed time.
