My Mrs has just got a Toshiba L20 Laptop for home.It was 499.99 from Comet and it is fine apart from the sound. The volume is up on full but it is so quiet that watching some dvds you need ear phones to hear it properly. I have been through every setting i can find to do with sound or speakers settings and even a diagnostic check on the speakers and all is well.
Is this a common problem or is there somthing i'm missing.I realise that this isn't a top spec laptop but even so it should be better than this. Has anyone else come across this with Toshiba Laptops.I think we should take it back as i can't believe that it's suppose to be so quiet.
I put a CD in it and unless your 6 inches from the speakers then you can't hear it ???.
Any ideas before i take it back......

I think it's common with Toshiba Laptops. I have a 2 yr old Toshiba Satellite A30-921 and the sound is very quiet when compared to my new Dell Inspiron 1300.
In the end, I had to buy a pair of external speakers so that I can watch DVD's and listen to music with my Toshiba Laptop.0 -
which volume is at the highest? you've got a volume control on the software (media player etc) and also on the soundcard itself.
you could have 1 on high and the other on low.0 -
Well, my first instinct would lead me to ask you if you tried adjusting the volume on the software that you are using to play your media? This could be main reason for you not hearing the sound properly. If it is up, then, we'll have to check something else.0

thanks for the help, looking at the links from speculator, it would appear that this is a known weak area, and it looks as though there is nothing to be done except attach third party speakers.
I will try and see if i can upgrade to a better model, as it was bought over the internet you can't really know it would have a low sound volume,(it was bought on spec and value), hopefully i can take it back....
thanks to you all.....Not ashamed to say ABBA are Great :j0 -
