How do I make goofle my home page, I have it set as a quick launch, but when i try to open a new page it just opens as a "new tab"

ok i've done what was suggested rebooted but when i click on a new tab the page is showing "tabs" in the address bar is says "about tabs"

It depends on your browser but in IE8 go to -
Tools > Internet options > General tab >
Make sure 'http://www.google.co.uk/' is top of the list in the Home Page box.
Then click on the Tabs settings button (lower down)
You'll see a drop down box labelled 'When a new tab is opened, open:'
Select - 'Your first Homepage'
