My hubby was unaware that a charge had taken his acct to a few pounds below zero, and thought the acct was just empty, and did nothing about it, and had moved house. This morning we have a letter from a debt collection agency, saying that he owes nrly £500 to Abbey, and that it was to go through them now.
what can we do, its all charges from that first few quid he didnt know about.

Contact Abbey and ask for copies of the statements back to 27th July 2001. Tell the Debt Collection Agency that you will pay them nothing until you have clarified with Abbey the totality of the debt that is owed. Tell them to place the account on hold since you dispute the amount owing.0
