No-as long as the debts are in her name and not in joint names.

I bet the Daily Mail will be pleased to know a civil partnership is breaking up within a year ! I remember Melanie Phillips raving and ranting about it when it was first introduced. Some people have nothing better to do.

As long as you have NO joint finances loans bank accounts etc things you took out in both names....then you'll be fine

You are not liable for any debts - UNLESS you had joint ones. So if you were a named person on her credit card bill that is NOT a joint debt, but both of you on a mortgage or a bank account would be.

If, as you say, they are all in her name, then no - you are not liable at all.

    Hi,

Did you live together in your house before the Civil Partnership, and if so, how long ?

Is she a sole trader or a LTD company ?

  • my partner paid nothing towards the running of the house, i was responsible for bills, mortagage etc etc. She opened up a shop and unfortunately it just made enough to keep ticking over and pay a small wage. I just dont know how i stand with us doing our civil partnership, i dont know whether i am liable for her debts as a partner eventhough we are no longer together and she is living with her parents.
She has recently told me that she is going to have to go bankrupt and i just wanted to have a few things straight in my head.

    Thanks for your help
