Apart from scouring the market for a cheaper policy, the only thing to stress for her is don't risk it and go without any medical insurance covering the heart condition!
Anyone close to the Aunt whose trip would be affected were she too ill to travel needs to make sure their insurance would cover them should they need to cancel due to the relative's heart condition causing a problem.0 -

If you haven't already done so you should compare prices on the Moneysavingexpert pages

There is no compusory requirement to have travel insurance, any more than you have to have life insurance or contents insurance for your home.
Medical treatment in the US is expensive. You have to weigh up the only two options available to you.
Take the risk, or pay the premium.0 -
Google Gotravelinsurance.
American Healthcare could financially cripple even very wealthy people. DO NOT go without insurance......0 -
thanks every1 some good advise. she wont be going anywhere without insurance.
the stupid thing is a person has a pacemaker inserted to correct a problem, they have a check up every 12 months and everythings always been fine with that. so theres probably more chance of a so called healthy person having a problem that her!!! but thats just the way it works0 -

I'm not for one minute recommending either of the above, I just put "travel insurance to USA with a pacemaker" into Google. These are a couple that popped up but I think you are definitely going to have to start making phonecalls after a web search of different companies.
Perhaps there are some 'pacemaker', 'heart conditions' or 'health' forums where you could get some ideas from.0 -
In the article scotsbob linked to there is a section for both the over 65s and those with a pre-existing condition.
What I would say is that with a pre-existing condition you WILL have to phone to get quotes confirmed, after you've used the comparison sites. DH has a lovely list (I think 7 at the last count!) although most are "not a problem".
FWIW we have an annual policy with getmy, and they were far and away the cheapest we could find! I have yet to claim, so can't comment on whether they are any good or not.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
British heart Foundation have a list of travel insurance companies with higher than normal age limits and pre-existing conditions. Here is a link.

Both Saga and All Clear are reasonable when insuring pre existing conditions. For arrythmia, hypertension and arthritis in a 58yr old male they did not add any extra premium to their standard travel insurance cost.0

Try also British Mountaineering Council www.thebmc.co.uk for an annual policy. And no, you don't need to be a mountaineer!
You have to be a member which can be done online for half price if you join by Direct debit, and will have to ring a medical screening number for the okay on her condition.
Advantages are a worldwide policy, trips up to 93 days round trip, up to age 69.0 -

My wife has a pacemaker, I have AF, we have used Saga many times. Have had to make 2 claims, very good service from them and they don't appear to "load" us for the previous claims.
Don't forget - the cheapest is NOT the best !0
