Is it just me or do you find this annoying?

I sold something buy it now to a new ebayer last week, they sent a paypal e-cheque that wont clear until 4th August.
I e-mailed back within 2 hours of the payment to advise that I need to wait until the e-cheque clears then I will send the item & advise when sent.
Got an e-mail today asking where the item is!
Now I just know this is going to cause problems. I have got good DSR's (4.9 across the board), but Im sure this buyer is going to mark me down. It wouldnt be too bad, but I only sell in spits & spats so when earlier ratings get knocked off it will look poor. At the moment I get good prices for my things, compared to similar items selling & Im sure this has alot to do with my DRS's

I don't bother e-mailing people to let them know its an e-cheque. If they don't realise it then its their problem not mine. I do however reply to where is my item with a polite reminder that for whatever reason their payment is an e-cheque so I am not allowed (always blame Ebay) to send the item till it clears. They normally are alright.

The new buyer doesn't understand how e-cheques work and just needs it explaining to them. As long as you tell them that it's nothing to do with you, that's how Paypal works, and that anyone who pays this way has to wait until the cheque has cleared before they'll get their goods dispatched, then there's nothing to say the buyer won't be reasonable about it.

If they're an echeque noob, a phone call might be in order... guess it depends whether you think it's worth it for damage limitation!

Its your problem if they mark down your DSRs. When a simple email could stop this
  • can someone explan why you'd ever send an e-cheque as opposed to a standard paypal payment

Fully agree with cyberbob here, I had a recent buyer who knew she had sent an echq when I emailed her to let her know, but wantd me to send the item out straight away anyway, as she said that once the echq had been sent it couldn't be reversed. I didn't agree with her logic there and refused to send until the chq had cleared, eventually she asked me to cancel the transaction to save her waiting around so long. ?!?!

I think its usually when you use your paypal account with funds from your bank account and have no credit card back up. So paypal wait for the money to be transferred to paypal from your bank account and then transfer it to the sellers bank account. Why this takes 10 days I never know!

Sadly if you e-mailed buyers with everything they should know by commom sense you would fill their in boxes. Also they mark you down no matter what you do.

Strangely enough I have just had this from Paypal (a bit late, but hey ho!)

You've just received an eCheque payment through PayPal.

eCheques can take around nine working days to complete, so don't send the item to your buyer until you've confirmed that the payment has completed.

    What is an eCheque?

eCheques are payments from buyers who have added bank details to their PayPal account, but have yet to provide a backup source such as a debit or credit card.

Think of these payments as bank transfers. But because they are processed by PayPal, you and your buyer won't need to share your financial details.

Buyers often don't realise they've paid for an item via eCheque

eCheques often occur because a buyer's backup card has expired. We've sent your buyer an email to let them know that their payment won't complete for around nine working days. It's still a good idea to contact your buyer directly and let them know that you'll be posting the item as soon as the payment completes.

    What happens next?
    • Contact your buyer and let them know that you've received an eCheque and that you'll be posting the item as soon as the payment completes. Your buyer may be surprised to learn they've paid by eCheque so feel free to explain that this happens often when a card has expired
    • Check your PayPal account in around nine working days and confirm that the payment has completed. You can do this by looking for "Completed" under the Status column for the payment you've received
    • Post the item to your buyer once you've confirmed that the payment has completed
    Happy selling,

    PayPal

People don't understand echeques though, just look at the amount of threads we have about them on here.

I have a cut and paste message I send when I get an echeque, it explains that paypal require me to despatch only when funds are clear. I then apologise for the delay and say I will let them know as soon as item has been sent.

For the sake of a 60 second email I might avoid an irate buyer marking me down on my stars.
