Car parking in York

Hi all

Does anyone know if it is possible to park in York free/at a reasonable cost?

Looking to go in Dec & the hotel I'm considering (Queen's) want £10 per night to park the car - is this usual??

Can anyone recommend a good quality VFM hotel/guest house?

Any advice much appreciated.

have you tried looking to see if the travelodge have there £10 deals on then.. a lot of people on here seem to use the travelodges to go to york when on a deal.. if your hotel is in the city centre then yes york is bad for parking.. i park at friends houses and get the bus into town..

There are a couple of good "Park & Ride" schemes as well. But overnight I'd feel happier to pay £10 and have the car somewhere safe.
    Can I help?

If you use Askham Bar Park & Ride its fine and safe though saying that next door is Tesco which is open 24 hours and i would just park it there.

When do you need to park your car? As i am away at the moment and my father goes away soon and if our driveway is free you could park there and there is a bus service into town every 15 minutes or you can walk which takes 20 minutes or 10 minutes if i need a pint on a night out...

Yes that sort of price is often quoted by some hotels in centre of York. I stayed at Queens which was a great hotel but pricey car parking.

I now go to the Novotel which is just about 5 mins walk (2 mins further than travelodge) BUT it has a free car park :j The beauty of it is that you can leave the car there, pop out in the car, come back, walk into York etc etc!

Try website https://www.totalstay.com for good advance deals (we got a really good deal last year for christmas market week by booking 6 months in advance and even novotel themselves could not beat it).

£10/£26 deals are good but remember to add in costs of parking.
