Hiya
My Mum and dad are having lots of problems with Sky Plus - when they are viewing something that has been recorded it keeps freezing. Often the only way to get it working again is to reboot the box (loosing everything that was recorded).
They have already had the box replaced but it is still not working very well.
The sky technition said that the problem could be because the BT wall socket is being shared by Sky & Broadband (they have a router/splitter).
My Dad is getting quite frustrated by the problem and talking about getting wireless for the broadband. This will not give them any benefits (they have a fixed PC not laptop) other than potentially sorting the Sky plus problems.
I wanted to check with you guys to see if their is help you could give before they splash out on potentially unnecessary changes?
sorry for long message. Any help would be appreciated.

Any other sockets in the house? The bt broadband line should be able to be accessed from all phone sockets, thus try and use another one to see if splitting is actually causing the problem.
I'm afraid wireless is not going to help as that is between the modem/router and the computer, not the modem/router and the internet connection. That is still connected through the phone line and dsl splitter.
Good luck[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Ours kept doing this, it was so bad we couldn't watch anything we had recorded. We were told it was the Bt thing too.
We were also told to try the housekeeping thing and it has helped greatly. So far, nothing has frozen on us.
Only problem is....I can't remember how we got to the housekeeping menu bit.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Dont see how it can be the phoneline just unplug it anyway, could be the harddrive thats knackered have a look at Digital Spy Sky+ forum some sky boffins on there

i can state for sure its not the BT line or BT box as my sky+ is not connected to theline and sometimes has the same problem, as stated by aliasojo, do the houskeeping which completely wipes all your hardrive this has solved my problem as well,
It similar to a hardrive on a PC which becomes fragmented and starts to slow down.0 -
Its not the phone line is a problem with the box, ring sky again and get them to come out.0

By the way a lot of sky technicians in my opinion are not the brightest of the bunch,
I understand they get less than a weeks training before the start to install boxes,
Plus those on the help desk if you don't get through to india are just following help suggestions on their screen,0 -
Thanks for your really fast response guys
will have a look over at digital spy. I'm not sure what you mean by housekeeping - but will have a look on the menu? (Mum's worried it will wipe everything off again but worth a try!)
Sky seems to have been blaming BT all along but it did seem a bit strange as you rightly say it is just retrieving stored stuff.
Now we have been pointrd in the right direction i'll do a bit more digging.

I still suggest trying the broadband in the different slot so when they argue and say its the splitter, you can say "actually its not there anymomre" type thing[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

To housekeep>
Services, 4 , 01 select, then 7 Planner Rebuild (This wont wipe any recordings) or 8 Full System Reset (will wipe recordings)0 -
