Vauxhall Corsa Fuel Consumption
We currently have a 2002 Corsa 1.2sxi, 3 doors, manual, petrol with a full vauxhall dealer service history (we've owned since new).
The official fuel consumption figures are 36mpg (urban) and 48mpg (combined).
Currently we are only getting 320 miles out of a full tank which works out at 32mpg.
I drive a 2.0 cliosport and I average 36mpg.
Cab anybody with a similar car provide their avaerage mpg please.
What concerens me is that we are about to change the car very soon due to new arrival. I am looking at what car trying to decide which model to go for and whether to change to diesel.
Are there any websites where I can compare 'actual' economy figures rather that the manufacturers guides.
Thanks

Hi,
Its very hard to get close to offical figures. I owned the same car on a 03 plate and managed low 40's even with lots of urban driving. However we rarely get stuck in traffic jams.
Has it been serviced later? It Could be that a brake is binding on?
Best regards

I have a 2004 1.0 Corsa, and get about 300 miles to £30 petrol - although I have a heavy right foot. I did manage to do London to Birmingham on Friday with a quarter of a tank though - but that was at 55-65 sitting behind the trucks on the motorway.
Next car will be diesel and have cruise control.0 -
thanks for your replies. What car states official figures. Is it best to take a %age off them when trying to work out costs. I'm trying to decide what to buy.0

Hi,
I had a Corsa 1.2 as a courtesy car a couple of years back and I only managed 32mpg which I was quite surprised to see. I was expecting it to be in the high 30s/low 40s. However, I did notice that the gearing is set up in such a way that the engine power is very flexible and responsive and economy usually suffers as a reuslt. I have to say performance wise it is the best 1.2 I have ever driven, especially on the motorway where there is so much torque ... but it revs higher than average and as a result, its the economy that suffers. Remember, it very hard to get a good performance 1.2 which is also economical. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
I get about the same mileage as you. I feel like it's low, but I guess it's not.
UK petrol is way too expensive...0 -
Small engines don't necessarily deliver better fuel consumtion, especially if you drive them hard to extract any performance out of them.
Fuel consumptio is very sensitive to driving demands - do a steady 65mph for 5 hours and you'll get 45mpg, drive round town and you'll struggle to meet the claimed figures.Happy chappy0
