Motability repayments

Options
I picked up our motability car two weeks ago, and dla was paid today. I assumed that since we've only had the car two weeks, I would still be due two weeks mobility componant of the dla, but they've take the whole 4 weeks of the mobility. Is this right?

    Hi,

They should refund you the overpayment (two weeks worth of DLA),

It maybe worth checking with the DLA unit (0845 7123456) that they have got the details from Motability to ensure they have the correct 'start date' for you making the payments for your car.

This same thing happened to my brother when he had his car at the beginning of this month, so queried it when he picked his car up with the bloke at the garage who deals with the motability orders.

Think the bloke told him to wait until his next payment day once he had his car, as usually the motability company then realise they've had overpayment on the car rental thing and then refund you the money on the day you usually get payment? Then if it's still not in ring and check what's happened, but my bro found his money in there when he checked anyway.

I ordered mine last November, but it waswn't delivered till February. DLA was taken from November, but then in March I got the overpayment back. Nice lump sum!

The CP50 you have stamped at your local office is sent to the DLA office. The date on it is your 'provisional' agreement date. This is the date your mobility component will be stopped from. The agreement you sign when you collect your vehicle is 'proof' of the actual date you collect it. This agreement is then sent to the Motability finance company to sort out your finance arrangements and then sent from the finance company to the DLA office. This can take about 3 weeks (sometimes more) DLA can not do anything until they receive a copy of the actual agreement (with the date you collected it on). Once received at DLA they can then calculate if you have any arrears to be paid out. This is to prevent an overpayment of your mobility component as the date on your CP50 may not neccessarily be the actual date you collect your vehicle. As hilstep2000 says, better to receive a lump sum than to be overpaid.

My car goes back on Sept 11th, Yeah i know what your thinking lol. I will not be having another car from them for a while. I got a call last week from Motability telling me i will have to wait up to 6 weeks for my DLA payment to go into my bank account. Seings as my DLA will be paid on the 9th Sept, will they only take 2 days motability money from me i.e. DLA 9th Car goes back 11th?

Hi Nigsey, it's the same principle, until DLA have been notified by Motability that you have not taken out another agreement they can't issue your mobility payment. Again, they have to wait for confirmation to come through of the date your vehicle was returned. It may not take 6 weeks, but they have to say 'up to 6 weeks' to cover themselves in case it does.
Your DLA is paid 4 weekly in arrears so the payment you are due on the 9th will be your care component and/or residual DLA (depending on your mota agreement) for the previous 4 weeks.
Two days isn't long enough to deduct a full weeks mob so I would be surprised if they did make a deduction...and it will depend on what your end agreement says. Hope this helps.
