One way car hire - Seattle to San Diego

Good morning.

I'm looking for a good deal on one way car hire from Seattle to San Diego (28th Aug to 12th Sept).

What worries me is that many sites just state a one way fee (which is unspecified) is payable locally. I don't fancy giving them a blank cheque!

Holiday Autos seem to be one agent who doesn't charge a fee but they are quite pricey for this period. However, I've been please with their customer service in the past so would be happy if there is no alternative.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

You could try Auto-Europe. It says 'Please Note: Additional one-way fees may apply to your rental. If fees apply, we will contact you to advise you of these fees, and will not confirm your rental until you have provided payment information and accepted these fees. If fees do not apply and you have provided payment information, we will confirm your booking and send you a confirmation voucher.' It's prices start at £330 with zero excess.

Cheers for that. They are a bit pricey though (shame). Anyone with another suggestion?

Hi - I've been looking into doing this route sometime in Sep or Oct.

One option I'm considering is the following:
Apparently it is illegal to charge one-way fees in the state of California.
So I was looking into renting a car in Seattle and dropping it off as soon as entered Cali (whatever the first town you come to is!)
Then renting another car to drive down to San Diego.
As I think the 1 way fees are dependant on distance, so Seattle to the edge of California would incur a smaller one way fee than driving all the way to San Diego.
    Does that make sense?
I haven't looked into prices etc in detail, so maybe it's just simpler to do the one rental, but it may be worth considering.
