mCarthur glen retail outlet

Options
I was in livingstone at the weekend and thought i would pay a visit to Mc Glen i was doing the usual looking around and seing prices before you buy etc. i discovered that it is not actually cheaper than normal shops.
I was in some shops and on the tickets it had (for example) RRP £9.95 our price £9.95 what is that all about. this was the case in a few shops. after about 2 hours hunting around i only bought some mishapes from the cadbury's shop i went to the almonvale shopping centre. i went into a few shops ther ethat sold things they had in Mc Glen to my horror they were CHEAPER in the shopping centre. Mcarthur Glen what a rip off. if you put a sign up saying sale then people will buy more because they think they are getting it cheaper.

    Yeah

I totally agree with you. I've made 2 x trips to the McArthur Glen Village in Livingston and was totally non-plussed by it all. Perhaps I've had bad luck during my visits but I've found the outlets there just as expensive as the High Street equivalents for certain items and for the clearance stuff, I wouldn't wear most of it if I got paid to do it (the men's stuff - of course! :D ).

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

It's the usual case of 'buyer beware!

If you think something is worth it, ignore the 'previous price'!
I am probably a little different to most people in that I have (due to being in the area on business) visited the following McArthur Glens:

York- one of the nicest and most pleasant to visit, especially during the week when it's quiet. All enclosed.

Cheshire Oaks- (Nr. Chester) I understand this is the largest, outside, with canopies, very good choice.

    Livingstone- quite like York.

Junction 28 M1 north of Nottingham- Awful, cheap and nasty, never again!

Colmil. You, are of course, referring to the Derby MacArthur Glen.

Have to agree it is pretty poor, no real big names at all, except Mark and no real bargains at all either.

The Swindon MacArthur Glen Outlet is definately worth a visit thoug. I think this was the first one they opened. it is large and has a good selection of shops.

Also, there is a Marks & Spencers Outlet shop just off Junc.10 of the M6 (Walsall) which, although quite a small shop, does pack a few bargains every now and again.

My sister takes my nan, auntie and mum there every year around the end of November to do christmas shopping. They always save a fortune and have a really good day. I've never been because I live so far away but would love to go one day.

Never been to the Leeds one you mention, but have been to the Cheshire Oaks one many times. There are amazing bargains to be had - although of course as ever buyer beware. Just because something looks like a good deal doesn't mean it is!

We have really saved thousands. Bought a whole 8 place Denby set from there for just over £100, saved a fortune on clothes and other kitchen items. It's one of the best shopping malls outside of the US that I've been to icon14.gif

Cheshire Oaks is excellent. My sister bought the nicest ralph lauren pure wool 3/4 coat, for 12.99 there, absolutely stunning.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Been to the one at M4 Junction 35 Bridgend

Boring, full of tat, No bargains that I would call bargains, always a waste of time no different to any city centre shopping experience.

I've been to the same one as Wig (Bridgend) a few times - have sometimes got some good deals but usually come away with nothing because the prices are too high. I've also been to the Swindon one. My parents shop at both places and usually manage to find things they are happy with.

I think the problem is not just that the deals are not so great (compared to online retailers or some discount stores) but also that I'm more into moneysaving than brand names etc. so even if a branded item is heavily reduced, I'd still be thinking about the unbranded one I could get elsewhere for slightly less!
