Returning item to seller without original box

I bought a set of new wireless headphones a few weeks back from a ebay shop
and power seller.
When they were delivered I took a quick look at them and binned the box.
I have now tried them and found they do not work.
How do I stand with returning them without the original box ?

How long ago is "a few weeks"? You only get 45 days from the date of payment to dispute the transaction through Paypal.
If I were the seller though, I'd want it back in the same state I sent it out, ie boxed, so binning the box before testing the product probably wasn't the brightest ideaBack on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

It was a ebay daily deal 12 days ago they sold nearly a thousand of them.
I do not mind if they send me a replacement without a box.0 -
If he is a power seller and sold nearly a 1000 of them he probably won't care that much, so long as you return it and it is genuinely faulty. I know I wouldn't be bothered if they were genuinely faulty.0
