Hi there!
Where would be the best place to buy a new combi boiler?! My step dad is a qualified engineer (but does not work in this field of work anymore!) and has said that if i get the boiler he can fit it for me! Just wondering how much the boiler is gonna set me back!!!
Cheers...

Combi boilers start from about £400 upwards.
What's your step dad qualified in? Aeronautical Engineering? Vehicle Engineering? Chemical Engineering? Architectural Enginnering? Agricultural Engineering? Computer Engineering? Environmental Engineering? Metallurgy? Nuclear Engineering, Marine Enginnering? ... this list is almost endless.
Whatever, if he's not gas safe registered, I'd leave it to someone who is to install.
Also best to leave the purchase to them as well then they'll hopefully get one correctly sized to the installation."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
What premier states is correct. It is illegal for anyone to fit a boiler unless they are gas safe registered(was Corgi).
Besides there are a raft of new regulations on installation that have to be complied with these days.0 -
I used to work for BG and the amount of people that said my husband is an engineer so he will no what he is doing etc.......:D
If he aint registered dont let him do it, in any case you have to apply to the local council (offically) before you install a CHB and also say who is doing it etc.......0 -
Hee hee!!! You guys crack me up! Cheers for your help though!
He's a gas and heating engineer (or whatever the title is that's given to plumbers these days!) Seriously, he knows what he's doing!
But once it's installed, if it's gas safety certified every 12 months isn't this ok?
The thing about getting the installer to get the boiler too is that i'm worried they'll probably buy the most expensive one out there, or, more likely, buy the one they can fit the quickest and easiest but say it cost more than it actually did and i end up getting stung!
It's already got a central heating boiler installed, it's just not a combi one. And step-dad says it's gotta be a combi cos they're so much more efficient.......0
