Is cashback still available on Barclaycard Platinum for existing users?

I opened an Platinum credit card account with Barclaycard about 3-4 years ago. I had stopped usng it and recently got a letter asking to use it by next month (August 2009) or they would close the account.

So that's why I'd like to know if any Cashback still available for existing customers, or whether or not it has long been withdrawn?

What do you mean cashback? depending of your credit limit you can withdraw a certain amount in cash from that limit. Barclays should be able to tell you, but you will be paying very high interest rate
  • To Stephane:

I am referring to the very common existence of Cashback Credit cards - something I know used to exist with the Platinum Barclaycard......up to 2% at one time. But I don't know what % it is now, if at all; or even if it has been withdrawn.

I still get 1% cashback on my Capital One CC, so just wanted to know whether to close my Barclaycard Platinum CC, or not, depending on the cashback issue.

I have a Barclaycard Platinum card.

Once upon various times, B'card offered cashback for fixed periods, but regardless of what anyone tells you here, it's the credit agreement you signed (plus any subsequent variations) that counts.

If I were you, I'd dig out your Ts & Cs and phone customer services.
If you ring Card Services during business hours on 01604 234234, you'll avoid the perishing 0870/0844 numbers and, with luck, the overseas call centre ;)
Note: this is not a static connection. During busy periods, it dynamically routes the call overseas.

Sorry I misunderstood regarding cashback. I have a barclaycard platinum but they don't offer cashback
  • To Moggles:

I don't supose you know where I can get a list of all the 'alternative' numbers for all the various credit card companies and other companies alike - so I can avoid paying these wretched 0870/0845 rate calls??

Has Martin Lewis ever created such a list? It seems just the sort of thing that's up his street; saying that, if he did no doubt such a 'loophole' would soon be closed off by all te various companies!!

I've got a Barclaycard Cashback Credit Card (it has cashback written on the card). It used to be a Morgan Stanley card. The standard was 1% but when I phoned up to cancel they offered me 2% cashback for 6 months but it wouldn't automatically end after 6 months but be "reviewed".

    There's a website www.saynoto0870.com (I think)

Many telephone suppliers no longer charge for 0845/0870 numbers, or have them as part of their inclusive call allowance.

No luck for me... I've used that number several times over recent days (always daytime). I always got through to the call centre.... But worse was that irritating automated system with the over-jolly male voice and his designer regional accent.

Yes, many of them do, but the likes of TalkTalk will only do so if you move to their new 'Essentials' package which works out at £2 per month more for the same facilities as I've got now.

    Twist!!
