Second-hand bike unridable after '4 week warranty' over

I bought an aluminum bike second-hand for £125.
After 6 weeks I noticed a large crack in the frame which means it's a write-off and not safe to ride.

I took it back to the shop and politely gave them some Sale Of Goods Act spiel (which applies to second-hand stuff I believe), and asked for a refund as the bike is faulty.
They tried to exchange it for a bike which was too small for me, I told them so, and they then tried to make me pay another £80 for a bigger bike ("We're doing you a favour here").
At this point I said I wanted a full refund or nothing, and left.
So my question is, because their receipt says 'One month service and guarantee, and 2 weeks exchange', is this as far as my legal rights go? Or am I still entitled to a refund for a faulty item after this?

I would wait until you have a final outcome from Camden Cycles before putting up a web page like that.
Why don't you WRITE to them (recorded delivery) stating what's happened, and asking for a response within 7 days.
Do they have nothing similar that they can exchange it with?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I don't think they have to offer you a full refund but they should be offering to repair or replace at least.
The webpage you posted is seriously over the top and not going to help with your case at all. My advice would be to take that down pronto.0 -
I don't understand why you didn't get a refund unless you started having a slanging match with them.
Take the website down as they can refuse to give you a refund or take you to court. Also remove the link from this site before they notify MSE.
Secondly write a very politely worded letter asking for a refund sending it by recorded delivery. Explain politely in the letter that they offered you a bike too small and that unfortunately you don't have extra money to pay more to get a larger bike (This doesn't have to be true but it's a reasonable and polite excuse.)I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for the advice, I was pretty !!!!ed off on Sunday and can see I've been a bit rash. Link removed and website to follow suit.
They really did not seem willing to find a replacement bike, in fact they seemed to pick the oldest and worst bike possible.
Another that made me suspicious was they tried to wangle my receipt from me - I had to go back to get it when I realised they'd hung on to it, and the guy claimed he'd already given it back! After asking for it again it suddenly appeared from the shop.
I'll write to them tomorrow.0
