Want my own style!!! Please help..

I've lived too long in baggy jeans and hooded sweatshirts and enough is enough....

I keep buying prettyish things but nothing ever suits me as I'm an odd shape and it always has the tags on a year later.

So.. I've cleared the wardrobe out. Posted everything on bigwardrobe and thrown away all my ripped jeans and faded sweaters and tops full of holes.

Thing is, what next? The style I want is ... vintage, indie, bohemian... it fits in with my personality and my tastes, but conversely I'm not creative and I just can't seem to match clothes to a style or even with each other!

Where do I begin????

I'm 5'3, small boned, about a size 10 but I have a big chest and I do worry it doesn't give me the dainty feminine look. Argh someone help please!!!!

Can definitely sympathise with the big bust ,and if you're a 10, probably small waist as well. I'm a 30g/gg and it can be pain to dress, I also have little shoulders which makes it even more fun.

    The main thing I have found is to figure out what shapes suit you, and work from there. If you are busty then not all styles and shapes work for you, but there are plenty that do. Generally, I find that it's best to go for styles which are designed for curves. Few suggestions;
Very well fitting bras - Make sure you are wearing the right size, take yourself to bravissimo, john lewis or debenhams to get fitted.
Wrap dresses/tops - not ones which are sewn down as is they fit chest they'll be too loose on waist.
Tunic Tops which have a band under the bust and tie at the back - these might work with your indie/bohemian look, soft fabrics maybe with ethnic detailing/embroidery, but still fitted. Monsoon have a few in their sale, got one in a stunning rich turquoise.
Dresses which fit in under bust - either something with a tie, or don't be afraid of a nice belt at the waist. Jersey fabric tend to be great as you don't have to go up sizes to get them to fit at the top!
Sweetheart necks - as long as they are fitted well
If you like vintage, then 50s styles with their nipped in waists are great for your shape.
A-line skirts can be a good option if you feel that you are top heavy as they will balance you out. Wide leg trousers do the same to a lesser extent.
Well fitting jackets, eg blazers which nip in under the bust, with 1 or maybe 2 buttons

Oops, bit of a ramble there but hey! You can definitely look feminine with a big chest, I'm often told how feminine/girly I am! However, some of the girliest looks don't work - thin strapped vests, flowing items which often lack shape, etc. You need to find the shapes tht work for you, then hunt them down. Personally I buy a lot of stuff on ebay.

Amazing accessories - like big ethnic necklaces, detailed handbags, funky high heels etc, are the way I tend to try to adapt my clothes to different trends where the clothes themselves just don't work.

Why are you asking us if you want your own style:confused:
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

I'm thinking things like 50s style prom dresses - halter/square necks, strapless if you can get the bra to match, fitted at the waist, fuller in the skirt. Been very popular the last few years. Think modern versions of the dresses in Grease!! If you're only a ten you'll also be able to carry nice pencil skirts etc.

You can soo look feminine! Just don't make the classic busty girl mistake of trying to hide them under loose, baggy tops. They just end up looking bigger, along with the rest of you. I generally find v necks, scoop necks or sweethearts best, and if they are a bit too low for work i pop a little vest (maybe with a lace edge) underneath.

If you need any help just shout

absolutebounder - because as I stated I'm not creative enough to work it out on my own! Maybe 'my own' style isn't the right phrase, maybe 'some' style compared to living in tshirts and jeans.

scotsgirl - again, thank you so much. I think that's the mistake I've always made, and at 26 I've realised I've spent the last god knows how many years in baggy clothes!

I think OP was wanting some pointers about things that might work, not to be told exactly what to wear. I don't think anyone is going to answer saying " you should wear this exact outfit!"

Two people could take the same set of 'guidelines' about things that suit their shape and wear totally different styles, an entirely different look, and still be suiting their shape. OP might see the suggestions above and go, oh, nice ethnic printed empire line kaftan, chunky necklace, pair of skinny jeans, nice flats, and look brill. On the other hand I would go hm, 50s a line skirt with a bold red spotted pattern, plain fitted top, single button red blazer, pair of fun, slightly crazy heels, done! (and that was just work today)

I felt this way a few years ago, what I did was look about at peoples style that I liked and try and take inspiration from them. Choose some celebs whose style you like and look at pictures of what they are wearing and try and adapt it to suit you.

For example I like the Olsen twins, Nicole Richie, Blake Livelys character in gossip girl, Victoria Beckham somtimes to name a few. So I take inspiration from them that works for me like leather jackets, leggings ect but I would never wear long flowing dresses as I wouldn't feel right in one and they are just not practical for me.

Polyvore is a good website for getting inspiration, you can browse looks people have created and get ideas on good pieces to get.

I think creating your own style is an ongoing process but once you have started it will flow naturally.

    Hope this helps!

I think absolutebounder used to be that annoying little boy the other boys would dare to run in the girls' toilets and make them scream:eek: , judging by his contributions to these threads:rotfl:

about saving money by shopping in jumble sales like primark

Money saving is not just about jumble sales, car boots, charity shops, Primark etc - it can also be about spending a large amount of £s on something that will last you years - so you get excellent value for money from it.

And you obviously did not read the OP's last post where she explained her question (although why she feels she needs to explain herself to you I really don't know )

If you don't agree with the thread title, then don't read it - we aren't forcing you to! Go back to the Arms or DT and post your spiteful comments there.

  • Have a look at some of the stuff this girl wears, she seems petite but busty, probably a size 12-14:
