grrrrrrrrrr help - stupid essay

Options
grrrrrrrrrrr.... I have stupid seen essays to write and this one is really p!ssing me off. The question is:

Critically evaluate the research that supports a gender and age interaction in fear, and perceptions of risk, of crime.

I can't even seem to find this so called research which mentions this interaction ...............

Might be completely off the mark here but wouldn't you just need to find some research which shows that there tends to be a correlation between age and sex and the fear of crime - there's loads of this about if you look. I just googled 'elderly fear of crime' and it brought some stuff up from Age Concern and the Home Office which would be a good starting point, and then googling 'women fear of crime' brought up some interesting stuff too - this article might be helpful (although I'm posting this with disclaimer that I found this through a couple of minutes googling and so its academic integrity might not be brilliant).

Search the Office of National Statistics website for fear of crime. There's been loads of surveys and analysis about this

Try looking at your reading list. Your tutor had some reason for setting this title, and it will be connected to lectures and hand-outs. Or perhaps you are too smart to waste time going to lectures?

Google "age fear crime" and "gender fear crime" to give a whole list of useful hits - and I'm sure your university subscribes to specific "so called" research databases that would give even more useful references.

The 7th hit for "age gender fear crime" returns a reference to an article entitled "ASSESSING AGE AND GENDER DIFFERENCES IN PERCEIVED RISK AND FEAR OF CRIME" Lagrange, Ferraro 1989 which seems pretty relevant.

loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • I did something about this in A Level Sociology... Might be a bit of a gamble but you could try looking in A Level textbooks, find the bit on fear of crime, get the researchers' names and then you can do your own further research from there =)
  • It really depends on what discpline you are doing

statistics show that contrary to what you think, those most at risk or crime are young male adults, not the elderly or females
